Sunshine Coast Young People Launch Housing Association
Young People Housing Association Inc. (YPHA) has been formally incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 (QLD), giving the Sunshine Coast a new advocacy body run by and for the young people being locked out of housing.
YPHA was started by a young Sunshine Coast couple, Amber Barry and Saxon O'Neill, after months of rental knockbacks and a realtor who told them "we don't want people like you". It is member-led, with every major decision voted on by its founding members.
Alongside its advocacy, YPHA is developing the Lifestyle Village, a proposal for affordable modular homes built faster and at lower cost, where residents own the home and the land is leased to keep it within reach. The aim is a working pilot YPHA can take to government as proof the model delivers.
